On Saturday 19 January, 2024, the Tsinghua Southeast Asia Center was honored to welcome the delegation of Professor Xu Kaihua to Bali. Professor Xu Kaihua is a professor from Central China University and a current Tsinghua Eco-Explorer Fellow. He is also the chairman and founder of GEM, one of the largest Chinese investors in Indonesia. Gem focuses on recycling, e-waste processing, and battery material manufacturing, among other “G-Green E-Eco M-Manufacturing” activities, and is one of the Top 5 environmental enterprises in China. Professor Xu was accompanied by a delegation of 21 individuals, including the Associate Dean of the School of Economics and Management at Tsinghua University, and several Tsinghua Eco-Explorers. The visit included knowledge sharing around sustainability and happiness and the future of Bali, Kura Kura Island, and the work being done at the Tsinghua Southeast Asia Center. The morning concluded with a tour of the Kura Kura Island, which has been designated by the Indonesian government as a Special Economic Zone for tourism and creative industries.
