
The public lecture “Why We Explore,” held on November 28, 2024, at the UID Bali Campus, featured Professor Robert Myers, a distinguished theoretical physicist, who shared insights into the transformative impact of curiosity-driven research. Organized by Tsinghua University and the Tsinghua Southeast Asia Center, the event highlighted key scientific concepts such as quantum entanglement and higher-dimensional black holes while emphasizing the importance of fundamental research in driving innovation. The lecture engaged students, academics, government officials, and private-sector representatives in a vibrant discussion about the role of exploration in addressing global challenges and fostering societal progress.
Prof. Stella Christie, the deputy minister of higher education, science, and technology, opened the event by giving welcome remarks. The participants of this event ranged from 200-230 people. Also present was Prof. Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Chairman of the National Economic Council of Indonesia, at this event.
The invitees were the rectors of universities in Indonesia as well as students and those in Bali. After this Public Lecture, the invited rectors, Prof. Stella and also Prof. Luhut enjoyed dinner at SSBW and continued their discussion there.
