13-15 January 2025 – Tsinghua SEA, Bali
The Nature and Nurture Interplay: Real-world AI in Medicine Workshop took place on January 13–14, 2025, at the Tsinghua Southeast Asia Center. Designed as an introductory session for the upcoming Nature and Nurture Interplay professional program in October 2025, the workshop brought together 17 experts from various medical and scientific fields, including pediatrics, genomics, hematology, gynecology, and public health. The event opened with a program overview by Prof. Willem H. Ouwehand from the University of Cambridge, followed by discussions on AI and machine learning applications in anemia, DNA research, and rare disease management. On the second day, a focus group discussion provided participants the opportunity to give feedback on the curriculum and explore how AI can be effectively integrated into Indonesia’s healthcare system. Additional faculty members joined remotely, offering global perspectives on the subject. Key takeaways from the workshop included the importance of ethical AI implementation, the need for hands-on research activities, and stronger collaboration between medical professionals and data scientists. With insightful discussions and active engagement from participants, the workshop set a solid foundation for the upcoming professional program and reinforced AI’s growing role in modern medicine.
